Entry-Level Nokia Lumia 530 Unveiled

Nokia and Microsoft just unveiled the most affordable Lumia smartphone to date: the Nokia Lumia 530. It comes in single-SIM and dual-SIM variants, and is expected to cost as low as $115 before taxes and subsidies. It basically retains the features of its predecessor, the Lumia 520, which has a 4-inch display, 512MB RAM, and 4GB storage (expandable via microSD card slot). However, it upgrades on the processor, which is now a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200. The display resolution has also been bumped up a bit for a 16:9 aspect ratio, and it will come with Windows Phone 8.1 out-of-the-box. There is also Nokia Drive+ for worldwide offline navigation.

Then there are the unforgivable downgrades: the display is no longer IPS and does not feature the Nokia ClearBlack technology, which the Lumia 520 had. The GPU has also been downgraded to Adreno 302 from Adreno 305 of the Lumia 520. The 5-MP camera is fixed-focus and can only capture 480p videos, instead of 720p HD of its predecessor. While the Lumia 530 uses the same 1,430mAh battery as its predecessor, it has obviously become thicker, measuring 119.7mm x 62.3mm x 11.7mm. Overall, there are more downgrades than upgrades to this Lumia smartphone. You'd be better off with the Lumia 520 or the Lumia 525. But do check out its cool advertisement and hands-on demo videos below, and decide for yourself.
