The New Amazon Fire HD, Fire HDX 8.9 & Fire HD Kids Edition
Amazon announced its newest Fire HD 6 and Fire HD 7 tablets. The latter of which replaces the 7-inch 2013 Kindle Fire HD while the former is an all-new tablet with a 6-inch screen. Both tablets have very similar specifications, which include 1280 x 800 pixels touchscreen, quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB/16GB of internal storage, 2-MP primary camera, VGA front-camera, Wi-Fi support, and a SlimPort-enabled microUSB 2.0. The two tablets only differ in screen size, physical dimensions, and price.The Fire HD 6 will cost just $99 while the Fire HD 7 starts from just $139.

Along with the Fire HD 6 and the Fire HD 7 is the Fire HD Kids Edition. It is a child-centric tablet in terms of design and functionality. It comes with a quad-core processor, HD display, front and rear cameras, Dolby Digital audio, and more. It will also be available in 6-inch and 7-inch variants. It will also come with a year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, which gives kids access to a library of 5,000 media content. The tablet is now available for pre-order and would ship next month. Price starts at $149.

Amazon's Fire HDX 8.9 tablet has also been launched, effectively replacing last year's Kindle Fire HDX. It pack an 8.9-inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of 339ppi. The display boasts 100% sRGB color accuracy and max brightness greater than 400 nits. The tablet measures 231 mm x 158 mm x 7.8 mm and weights 375g for the Wi-Fi model and 389g for the LTE model. It will come with an 8-MP primary camera with f/2.2 lens and LED flash. The front camera maxes out at HD resolution. Connectivity options include dual-band, dual-antenna Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac and 4G LTE. Interestingly, the Fire HDX 8.9 is the first tablet to feature Dolby Atmos audio. The latter works with headphones plugged in and creates a 360-degree sound experience. Its battery is quoted at offering 12 hours of mixed use. It costs $379 for the 16GB model and $594 for the flagship LTE model.
