Restaurant Review: Tom Sawyer's Old Fashioned Krispy Chicken

Tom Sawyer's Old Fashioned Krispy Chicken is a fast food restaurant in Tiendesitas whose specialty is the classic fried chicken. This is not the first time they've opened a branch in the country - they used to be here in the 1980s but had closed down. And now, they're back with a promise to offer the same quality of fried chicken they have been known for.


It is a relatively small restaurant (compared to Bon Chon) that is air-conditioned and well-lit. It can accommodate about 40 people both inside and at the veranda. In terms of design, there is not much going on and looks very much like any fast food restaurant. They don't have their own restroom but it's not hard to find one in Tiendesitas. Their staff are very accommodating too.

Fried Chicken

Obviously their main entree is the fried chicken. What's not to love about their chicken? None. It's crispy, tender, and very juicy. My only qualm would be the white paper the chicken is served on. It easily gets torn and you'll likely be eating bits of paper together with their yummy chicken. They also serve spaghetti, hickory ribs, and sides like fries, coleslaw, mashed potato, and brownies. Speaking of brownies, theirs is very typical but very chewy, which I liked. What's more, everything on their menu is very affordable.

Tom Sawyer is perfect for families, groups of friends, and young professionals who love fried chicken. Budget needed is about PhP150 per person on average. They are open daily from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM. They accept reservations, walk-ins, catering, and take-outs. Parking is available in Tiendesitas.
