Movie Review: Elysium

This year is indeed the year of action movies... and Elysium joins the bandwagon. Set in the year 2154, where the very wealthy live on a man-made space station while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth, a man takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized worlds. Will he succeed or will he die trying?

The story goes like this: In the year 2154 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes, a government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn't stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

Elysium is of action/sci-fi genre, which runs for approximately 109 minutes. It's rated R in most countries for strong bloody violence and profanity. This is actually one of those movies set in the future that I actually did like. Elysium, the space station, is so amazing. Jodie Foster was a revelation (in the looks department). We all know she's an experienced actress but she really looked pretty in the movie. Matt Damon was good as well. This movie is not for the faint of heart due to gore. You can literally see body parts and blood get blow off. Special effects and scoring were superb as well. If there was something lacking, it could be the need to extend the storyline. A coup d'etat actually happening would be cool. Also, I wish Matt Damon didn't die. It was just tragic. I hope there's a Part 2. Overall, it's a great movie and I highly recommend it.

RATING: 4 out of 5 STARS
