Samsung Launches the Premium-Looking Galaxy Alpha
Samsung finally took the wraps off the often rumored and leaked Galaxy Alpha. It sports a metallic frame and a faux leather, plastic back cover, making it look more premium than other Galaxy smartphones. Measuring 132.4mm x 65.5mm x 6.7mm, it is the sveltest Galaxy smartphone to date and comparable to the size of the Galaxy S5 mini. It is light too at just 115 grams. The Galaxy Alpha packs a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display with 720p HD resolution, which also happens to be the rumored display size of the upcoming iPhone 6. Instead of using a Snapdragon 800 or 801 chipset, the Galaxy Alpha comes with an Exynos 5 Octa silicon, which makes it the first device to sport one. There is 2GB RAM on board and 32GB of non-expandable storage. It will run Android 4.4.4 KitKat with TouchWiz on top, and includes Galaxy S5 features such as the S Health and Ultra Power Saving Mode. Similar to the Galaxy S5 flagship, it will have a fingerprint scanner and a heart rate sensor. It will also be compatible with the Samsung Gear smartwatches. Do note that it is not in any way a Galaxy S5 replacement or successor. The Galaxy Alpha is what the Galaxy S5 mini should have been in the first place.
