The new Pebble Time smartwatch has officially surfaced - once again through Kickstarter like the previous Pebble smartwatch. It now comes with a color e-paper screen, a new Timeline user interface, a built-in microphone for short voice mails but still with the same 7-day battery life Pebble smartwatches have been known for.

The most welcome change to Pebble Time is perhaps the addition of the color e-paper display, which is easy-to-read under direct sunlight, and always-on for displaying incoming notifications and different watchfaces. And since e-paper display is very energy efficient, the Pebble Time has a battery life of up to 7 days. Its display is also protected by the scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass.

The Pebble Time is stylish, ergonomic, and durable. It is 20% thinner than the original Pebble smartwatch at just 9.5 mm and curved to fit more comfortably on either wrist. Its bezel is made of stainless steel and the entire watch is water-resistant - able to withstand a run in the rain or a swim. What's more to love about the Pebble Time is that you can easily replace the silicone band that comes with it with any standard 22 mm watch bands.

Software-wise, the Pebble Time will come with full backwards compatibility, so each one of the over 6,500 apps and watchfaces for the original Pebble will be able to run on the new hardware. With the new Timeline UI, you can now navigate between apps much easier - where you click on the top key to go back in time, the middle key to go to what's present, and the bottom key to see future events. There's also a lot of neat animations involved which seem to run smoother than ever before. The Pebble Time comes with support for devices running Android 4.0 and above as well as iOS 8 and up. There's also a built-in microphone that can be used for replying to notifications and also taking voice notes. Voice typing is also present with initial support for instant messaging apps like Hangouts, Gmail, Facebook Messenger, and Whatsapp.

The Pebble Time will be available in black, white, and red color variants with a matching silicone band. You can get one now for as low as $179. There was a $159 pledge option but has since sold out. Pledges end on March 27, 2015. Worldwide shipping starts in May 2015.
