With the tablet market crumbling, Apple just had to release something that will up its game. Introducing the iPad Pro, which features the biggest screen on an iOS device. It is also the most powerful iOS device ever. At first look, it seems to be a direct competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Note tablets and Microsoft's Surface. But to Apple's Phil Schiller, the iPad Pro "can do things that a smartphone can't do, because it doesn't have to fit in your pocket, and it can do things a laptop can't do because you can hold it all day." The iPad Pro packs a gigantic 12.9-inch Retina display (LED-backlit IPS LCD) of 2,732 x 2,048 pixels. It has a pixel density of 264 ppi. The display is fully laminated and comes with a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic and anti-reflective coating. It is 78% larger than the iPad Air 2 but measures just 6.9 mm thin. It weighs 1.57 pounds, which is just as heavy as the original iPad. It still contains the Touch ID fingerprint scanner on its Home button and four stereo speakers with three times the volume of the iPad Air 2.

Ticking inside the iPad Pro is the 64-bit Apple A9x chip with double the memory bandwidth, 2x faster storage and 1.8x faster performance than the A8x chip. In the graphics department, it is 90% faster than most portable computers. Embedded within the A9x chip is the M9 motion co-processor. It is also the first iOS device to come with a whopping 4GB RAM. With the iPad Pro, Apple promises 10 hours of battery life. In terms of imaging, the iPad Pro has the same camera setup as the iPad Air 2: an 8-MP iSight camera with an f/2.4 aperture, auto-focus, hybrid IR filter, and five-element lens, among other. The camera is also capable of recording 1080p Full HD videos at 30 fps and slo-mo videos at 180 fps. Time-lapse video recording, video image stabilization, and video geo-tagging are available as well. Meanwhile, a 1.2-MP Facetime HD camera will take care of selfies and video calls.

The iPad Pro has rich connectivity features, which include Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac with MIMO, Bluetooth 4.2 technology, compass, iBeacaon microlocation and LTE (along with GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS) for the iPad Pro Wi-Fi + Cellular model. The iPad Pro runs iOS 9 and will come with new features such as Slide over, Split View, and Picture in Picture. Siri is now more intelligent than ever, able to search a wider variety of topics and delivers much faster results. With iOS 9, battery should last longer, software updates are much smaller, the UI is more responsive, and security has been improved overall. Apple has also partnered with Microsoft and Adobe for in-depth integration of the Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite in the iPad Pro.

Unlike the new iPhones, the iPad Pro will be available some time in November 2015. It will come in three colors: silver, gold, and space gray (no rose gold option here). The entry-level Wi-Fi only 32GB iPad Pro will cost $799 while its most expensive LTE-capable 128GB variant costs as much as $1,079. Along with the iPad Pro announcement are two essential iPad Pro accessories: the Smart Keyboard with its new magnetic Smart Connector and the Apple Pencil. The Smart Keyboard has a new magnetic Smart Connector that enables it to draw power and data from the iPad Pro. It is sold separately for $169. Meanwhile, the Apple Pencil, which costs $99, is a special stylus that can sense pressure, tilt, and stroke, contributing to a very comfortable experience for the user. The Apple Pencil can be plugged in the Lightning port of the iPad Pro for power.

Interestingly, Apple revealed the iPad mini 4 without much fanfare, in fact, it was showcased in as fast as 30 seconds. The new iPad mini 4 looks very much like the iPad mini 3 but is now skinnier at just 6.1 mm and lighter at just 0.65 pounds. The Touch ID can still be found on the Home button and it also features stereo speakers. Like the iPad Pro and iPad Air 2, the iPad mini 4 is also treated to a zero-gap screen. It still has the same 2,048 x 1,536 pixel resolution for its Retina Display. Powering it is the 64-bit Apple A8 chipset, which can be found on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The camera is essentially the same as the one on the iPad Pro: an 8-MP/1.2-MP setup. Connectivity features are also the same as that on the iPad Pro. The iPad mini 4 promises 10 hours of battery life. It will come in three colors: silver, gold, and space gray, and will cost $399 for the 16GB Wi-Fi only version and $529 for the 16GB LTE-capable variant. The price could go as high as $729 for the 128GB LTE-capable model.
