Microsoft Lumia 950, 950 XL and 550 Unveiled

The Lumia 950 is one of the three new Windows 10-powered smartphones unveiled by Microsoft, along with the phablet Lumia 950 XL and the entry-level Lumia 550. It packs a 5.2-inch AMOLED display of Quad HD resolution. That translates to a pixel density of 564 ppi. It is powered by a 64-bit hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset with 3GB RAM and 32GB of expandable internal storage. It also sports a powerful 20-MP primary camera, which uses ZEISS lens along with a triple LED flash and 5th gen optical image stabilization (OIS). It is also capable of recording videos in 4K resolution. Its front camera maxes out at 5-MP. Its connectivity suite includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, dual-band antenna, LTE-A, and USB Type-C. A 3,000 mAh battery will keep its lights on and supports both wireless and fast charging.

Perhaps the only missing feature on the Lumia 950 is a fingerprint scanner, which Microsoft replaces with Windows Hello (front-facing infra-red scanners that securely unlock your phone). On the software side, Microsoft has introduced Continuum, which allows the user to connect the phone to a monitor and have it work as a desktop computer, running desktop apps. This is with the help of a dedicated dock where the user must plug the phone. With all these features, the new Microsoft Lumia 950 can be purchased for $550 this November 2015, which is not too expensive either.

Then we have the Microsoft Lumia 950 XL, the Lumia 950's big brother. It comes with 5.7-inch OLED display of Quad HD resolution with ClearBlack technology. That translates to a pixel density if 518 ppi. Microsoft's Glance Screen is also present, allowing the user to view notifications by just looking at the phone. Ticking inside it a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset with 3GB RAM and 32GB of expandable internal storage. To quell overheating issues, the Lumia 950 XL is equipped with liquid cooling technology. In the camera department, the Lumia 950 XL packs a 20-MP primary camera with ZEISS optics, triple LED flash, 4K video recording, and a 5-MP front-facing snapper.

A 3,340 mAh battery will keep the phablet going, which also supports wireless and fast charging. The Lumia 950 XL will also be released in November 2015 and will cost $649.

It comes with a 5-MP primary camera with LED flash and a 2-MP selfie snapper. The Microsoft Lumia 550 also supports LTE and a 2,100 mAh battery with fast charging support will keep it going.
