YU Yutopia: A $375 Flagship Smartphone

YU Yutopia is now official and it is the company's first premium flagship smartphone. It comes with a unibody aluminum design and a PureBlack glass front. It has a 5.2-inch LCD of Quad HD resolution. Its display has a color gamut covering 91% of the NTSC color spectrum and a contrast ratio of 1000:1. It also uses OGS to laminate the display and Gorilla Glass for added protection. Ticking inside it is a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset with 4GB RAM and 32GB of expandable internal storage. The Yu Yutopia runs Cyanogen OS 12.1, which is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop, but will soon be updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. A 3,000 mAh non-removable battery, which supports Qualcomm QuickCharge 2.0, will keep its lights on.

Imaging-wise, a 21-MP Sony IMX230 primary camera adorns its back with OIS (optical image stablization), phase detection auto-focus, and a dual-LED flash. A fingerprint sensor is also situated below the main camera that can also be used to take selfies on its 8-MP front camera. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and LTE support. The Yu Yutopia also has DTS audio support and is bundled with Little Birds earphones from the House of Marley. Customers of the Yutopia will also get a six-month subscription to the music streaming service Gaana. The flagship smartphone will also come with a new service called Around YU, which integrates services such as Zomato for ordering food, Scandid for shopping, Easy Cabs for booking taxis, and a lot more. The service is preinstalled in the Yu Yutopia.

To be released first in India, it will retail for $375 exclusively on Amazon. It will go on sale on December 26, 2015.
