Samsung took the wraps off the successor to its best-selling smartwatch. Meet the all-new Gear S3, which comes in Classic and Frontier variants. Looking more like an actual watch than a smartwatch, the Samsung Gear S3 packs a larger 1.3-inch circular Super AMOLED display of 360 x 360 resolution, and protected by a layer of the new Gorilla Glass SR+ for wearables. It also supports Full Color Always-On Display.

Under the hood is a dual-core processor with 768MB RAM and 4GB of internal storage. It runs on the Tizen wearable platform and supports Samsung Pay, thanks to NFC and MST connectivity. It also has an external loudspeaker and a microphone for phone calls and music playback. The Gear S3 is also host to a variety of sensors such as the heart rate monitor, altimeter, barometer and gyroscope, in addition to connectivity features such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS, which can track your route while you exercise. Like the Gear S2, the Gear S3 is also IP68 certified, meaning it is dust proof and can withstand being dipped in shallow water for a few minutes. Its battery capacity has also been bumped up, which is now rated at 380 mAh, promising up to 4 days of battery life. Speaking of battery, the new Samsung smartwatch still charges wirelessly and even has a low power mode to stretch its battery life.

The main difference between the two Gear S3 variants is the finish. The Gear S3 Classic has a silver bezel finish while the Gear S3 Frontier comes with a darker bezel. Both variants, however, will feature replaceable 22 mm watchbands, with the Frontier shipping with a pair of silicon bands while the Classic will come with a leather band. In addition, the Gear S3 Frontier will also have an LTE-equipped model for Internet connectivity, text messaging and phone calls. Both smartwatches will become available in October 2016 starting at a price of $299. Are you excited to get one?
