Movie Review: Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy

Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy is a comedy film produced by Star Cinema and Viva Films that stars Vice Ganda, Maricel Soriano, and Joey Marquez and directed by Wenn V. Deramas. It is an official entry to the 2013 Metro Manila Film Festival. It is the second-highest grossing movie among the 8 entries. In the 2013 MMFF Awards Night, it took home major awards including Best Actress for Maricel Soriano and 2nd Best Picture.

girl, boy, bakla, tomboy

It is a story of quadruplet siblings played by Vice Ganda, wherein the girl and the boy grew under the custody of their rich father while the "bakla" and the "tomboy" grew with their poor mother. But destiny makes a way to make their paths cross in an unexpected way. As the four of them meet, they will be facing another challenge as one of them is in need of a liver transplant. But since they've been separated for a long time and grew apart, there will be hesitations if saving the life of the other really matters.

Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy is of comedy genre, which runs for almost 2 hours. It is rated PG-13 in the Philippines. The film could have easily become the highest grossing film (of all MMFF entries) if not for its PG-13 rating as opposed to the GP rating of My Little Bossings. Vice Ganda's acting is commendable considering he's playing the part of four different people. While his comedy is a bit crude and overly executed, surprisingly I still find many of the scenes funny. I think this movie and Kimmy Dora are the funniest of the bunch. I would have wanted them to take it easy on product endorsements.

RATING: 4 out of 5 STARS
