RIP MSN: Microsoft Messenger Bids Adieu

Microsoft had already announced that it will be shutting down MSN Messenger, which I happen to still use at work, on March 15, 2013. Obviously, the culprit for this decision was Microsoft's acquisition of Skype in 2011.

Microsoft is now telling MSN Messenger users to switch to Skype. In fact, Microsoft has added an upgrade button to its desktop Messenger that when clicked uninstalls Messenger and puts Skype in its place. Their millions of users will be transferred over to the more modernized version of messaging, the VOIP service, Skype. I will definitely miss MSN and forever cherish my memories with it.

The Windows Live Messenger instant messaging program was known as MSN Messenger when it first launched in 1999. The service is believed to be used by about 300 million people every month.
China is the only nation in which Messenger will keep operating, because it is run under licence there.
