MOTA Shows Off Its SmartRing

2014 can probably be dubbed as the year of the smartwatch as almost every major manufacturer has released their version of one. Now, this may be a breath of fresh air as California-based MOTA debuts its SmartRing. The SmartRing will do most of what a smartwatch can do but of course, it has to be worn around one's finger. It is a sleek band that comes in two colors: midnight black and pearl white. It packs a small display on one side, which shows images in cyan on a black background. The ring will come with a companion app that should be compatible with both Android and iOS. Once paired with a device, it will be able to receive notifications for texts, emails, Facebook, and Twitter events and messages. Soon, it will also support notifications from apps like Instagram, Uber, and LinkedIn.

The display fits a single notification icon, with a number for unread events. If the user desires, they can also read the messages but would be cumbersome to do so. The SmartRing can also display time and weather information. It is not yet available for pre-order and there is no information yet on pricing. While it looks very innovative and fashionable, there will probably be a concern on battery life. What do you think of this cool gadget/accessory?
