Restaurant Review: LUDO: Boardgame Bar & Cafe

LUDO: Boardgame Bar & Cafe is "the place to be to enjoy the cozy tabletop lifestyle." Ludo is Latin for "I play". Inside, they have more than 600 board games that you can enjoy playing while having one of their signature drinks or "crazy Asian" meals. It's located somewhere in Scout Torillo in Quezon City.

The entire cafe can probably accommodate about 40 individuals. It is air-conditioned and looks cozy. It is literally decorated with paintings and shelves containing all those 600+ board games that you can choose from. It actually looks more like a library or a gathering place of some sort than a restaurant. There's a washroom inside too. The don't seem to have enough waiters to accommodate all their guests but these waiters are knowledgeable about the menu and some of the board games they offer.

We ordered gyoza, nachos, and IBC rootbeer float for our food and drinks. Everything is reasonably priced. I didn't like the gyoza but the nachos were good. It's the first time I encountered the IBC rootbeer brand. At first, it tasted weird but when mixed with vanilla ice cream, it's really good. Plus it comes in a cool bottle, which adds to its classic and authentic appeal. As for the games, we took whatever looked nice to play. We kinda struggled figuring out how to play the other board games and we ended up playing two very simple games: TocToc Woodman and Tapple. The former is similar to Uno Stacko or Jenga but you will use an axe instead of your finger. Your goal is to peel the bark from the trunk by hitting it with the axe provided. Every bark that falls corresponds to a point but whenever a part of the trunk (core) falls, you get deductions. It's actually super fun to play and could bring out the gamer in you. Meanwhile, Tapple is more like the game PANTS from grade school where you have to think of a word that starts with any of the letters available, which is based on the category that will be chosen. The one with the most number of cards wins. It was fun at first but got boring towards the end.

LUDO: Boardgame Bar & Cafe is perfect for groups of friends, gamers, and those who are young at heart, who are into board games, and a bit geeky yet wholesome stuff. Budget needed is about PhP200 per person on average. They accept cash and credit card transactions. They are open daily from 12:00 PM to 2:00 AM (depending on the day). They accept reservations and walk-ins. A reservation is preferable, otherwise, you will surely be on the wait list, which is a bummer. Parking is available in front of the restaurant and along the street.
