Movie Review: Jurassic World

Jurassic World is a 2015 American science fiction adventure film. It is the fourth installment in the Jurassic Park film series. It stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D'Onofrio, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Omar Sy, B.D. Wong, and Irrfan Khan. Wong is the only actor from any of the previous films to appear in Jurassic World. Steven Spielberg, director of the first two Jurassic Park films, acted as executive producer, as he had for the third film. The film was met with mixed or average reviews but is a certified worldwide box office hit.

The story goes like this: Twenty-two years after the events of Jurassic Park, Isla Nublar now features a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World, as originally envisioned by John Hammond. After 10 years of operation and visitor rates declining, in order to fulfill a corporate mandate, a new attraction is created to re-spark visitor's interest, which backfires horribly.

Jurassic World is of action, adventure, sci-fi and thriller genre, which runs for approximately 124 minutes. It's rated PG-13 in most countries for intense sequences of science fiction violence and peril. It's been a long time since the last Jurassic Park film and it's third installment was not even great. People had been longing to see dinosaurs on the big screen again and Jurassic World would have been the film to satisfy the audience's longing. At best, this fourth installment was entertaining and enjoyable. It is always great to see dinosaurs in the flesh (albeit CGI) interacting with their environment and the people. The addition of the Mosasaurus was cool too. The actors were good as well especially Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. The use of CGI was excellent and the concept of a hybrid dinosaur that exhibits unique traits was refreshing. All that said, Jurassic World just did not have the appeal and novelty of the original film. In general, this is applicable to films with sequels. But if you're just going to see it for entertainment, and not compare it to any of its prequels, then Jurassic World is a must-see movie. Jurassic World is also available in IMAX and 3D.
