Samsung Unveils Galaxy A3, A5 & A7 (2016)

Samsung took the wraps off three new iterations from its A-series line of smartphones: the Galaxy A3, the Galaxy A5, and the Galaxy A7 - all 2016 edition. All three boast a premium design - made of metal and glass, with more rounded corners, and resemble the design language of the Galaxy S6. The new Galaxy A7 is the largest of the three and the most spec'd-out. It packs a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display of 1080p Full HD resolution. Ticking inside it is a 64-bit Exynos 7 Octa processor with 3GB RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage. It supports LTE-A and comes with a generous 3,300 mAh battery (which supports fast charging). It also sports a fingerprint scanner.

Meanwhile, the new Galaxy A5 is positioned between the Galaxy A3 and the Galaxy A7, but shares most of the specs of the latter than the former. It comes with a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED display of 1080p Full HD resolution. It has the same processor and storage options as the Galaxy A7 but comes with just 2GB RAM. It also supports LTE-A and packs a large 2,900 mAh battery (which supports fast charging). There's also a fingerprint scanner on board.

The most affordable of the three is the new Galaxy A3, which comes with a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display of 720p HD resolution. It runs on a 64-bit quad-core Exynos 7580 with 1.5GB RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage. It supports regular LTE connectivity and packs a modest 2,300 mAh battery. Unlike the Galaxy A7 and Galaxy A5, it does not have a fingerprint scanner.

All three new Samsung devices come with a 13-MP primary camera with LED flash and an f/1.9 aperture and a 5-MP front-facing snapper (also with an f/1.9 aperture). However, only the Galaxy A7 and the Galaxy A5 feature optical image stabilization (OIS). In terms of connectivity, all three have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, and dual-SIM support. They also run Android 5.1 Lollipop with TouchWiz on top. They will come in three color options: Black Sapphire, Platinum, and White Pearl. The Galaxy A3 is priced at $329, the Galaxy A5 will set you back $399, and the Galaxy A7 will cost $499. Any takers?
