Vertu Switches to Android with Vertu Ti

Vertu is perhaps the Lady Gaga or Nicki Minaj of smartphones because of its outlandish appearance...but of course, way more classy! After Nokia parted ways with Vertu, the latter managed to survive and has come up with a new smartphone no longer powered by the dead OS, Symbian. This time it's Android...sounds promising, huh?

Meet the Vertu Ti, which has a dual-core 1.7Ghz CPU, 1GB RAM and 64GB of in-built storage. It's got an 8-MP camera capable of recording 1080p video plus a 1.3-MP front camera. Software-wise, it makes use of Android 4.0 ICS with a custom UI. With a  3.7-inch WVGA display, it's not as big as those of its contemporaries. But Vertu claims these are the biggest sapphire crystal glass panels they've built. The body is made out of Grade 5 titanium, and there is a set of stereo speakers, tuned in collaboration with Bang&Olufsen.

Vertu claims that the Ti's body is 5 times stronger than the competition and its screen is 4 times harder to scratch. Pricing starts from €7900 for the most basic trim - Titanium Black Leather, it is easily one of the most absurdly expensive phones out there...but wait! There are three even more expensive editions soon to be released.

Til then...
