Movie Review: White House Down

You may think of it as just one of those White House movies...the most recent of which was Olympus Has Fallen...you may be right...or maybe not! Depending on which movie you compare White House Down to, opinions vary. But after I watched the film, I can say that it is a great movie. It's got me hooked from beginning til the end. Plus, it stars none other than Channing Tatum! Together with Jamie Foxx and Maggie Gyllenhaal, it's an all-star cast. The question is...with a $150-million budget, will White House Down be a box-office hit, considering it was shown together with the likes of Despicable Me 2, The Lone Ranger, World War Z, Monsters University, and Man of Steel?

The story goes like this: Capitol Policeman John Cale has just been denied his dream job with the Secret Service of protecting President James Sawyer. Not wanting to let down his little girl with the news, he takes her on a tour of the White House, when the complex is overtaken by a heavily armed paramilitary group. Now, with the nation's government falling into chaos and time running out, it's up to Cale to save the president, his daughter, and the country.

While there have been a lot of movies, which showed the White House crumble into pieces, I think White House Down still stands out. For one, it didn't get destroyed by aliens like in Independence Day. It also didn't get destroyed by forces of nature like in The Day After Tomorrow and in 2012. It was more in line with the plots of Olympus Has Fallen and Salt. Anyway, White House Down is of action/thriller/drama genre, which runs for approximately 131 minutes. It's rated PG-13 in most countries for violence and crude language. If you think Monsters University and Despicable Me 2 are too cute for your taste, then this is the movie to watch! It's an action-packed movie you will never regret seeing.

RATING: 4 out of 5 STARS
