Restaurant Review: Wai Ying

Wai Ying is an authentic Chinese restaurant strategically located in the heart of Chinatown Manila in Binondo. It is basically a no-frills "carinderia"-like fastfood eatery serving a number of Chinese dishes, which include dimsum, noodles, rice toppings, soups, and desserts.

The diner has two floors. It's not big and can only accommodate about 40 people. There's nothing fancy about its interiors. The place doesn't even look clean. There's air-conditioning but you'd hardly feel it. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. It took us 10 minutes before we were able to secure seats. If there's something to like about the ambiance, it's the smell of authentic Chinese food, which is good. They have a few servers/waiters, who seemed rattled and barely kept up with the demands of dining customers.

Wai Ying's Menu
When it comes to food, they serve sumptuous Chinese dishes. There's quite a lot to choose from. We ordered chicken mushroom rice, sweet and sour pork, congee, curry beef rice, hakaw, siomai, and more. Waiting time for food orders averages at 10-15 mins. The ones we ordered are really good but I've tasted better Chinese food elsewhere. Despite their busy-ness, the staff are generally friendly but the service feels slow. I'm not really sure if they have their own restroom or even just a sink to wash hands.

Wai Ying is perfect for families, tourists, and group of friends who love Chinese cuisine. Budget needed is about PhP125-200 per person. It is open daily from 7 AM until 2 AM. They accept walk-ins, take-outs, and offer delivery services. Parking, though hard to secure one, is available outside the restaurant.
