The GDR3 Update for Windows Phone 8

Microsoft has finally announced the GDR3 update for the Windows Phone 8 platform. This update brings support for larger displays (5 and 6-inch), with resolution of 1080p Full HD, and the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset. With this update, up to 6 Live Tiles can now be created per row. There is now an option to close apps in the task switcher interface by hitting the little "x" on each app's thumb as well.

A new Driving Mode also comes with the update. Custom ringtones are now available as well for instant messages, emails, voice mails, and reminders. There's a screen orientation lock feature and improved accessibility for disabled users - screen reader, calendar, calls, texts, emails and low battery can now be spoken out loud. The updated is expected to land on high-end Lumias and a couple of HTC WP8 smartphones soon.
