Movie Review: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Topbilled by a powerhouse cast such as Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, and Stanley Tucci, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is indeed one of the most anticipated movie of the year. Sequel to the original The Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark now become targets of the Capitol after their victory in the 74th Hunger Games, which sparks a rebellion in the Districts of Panem. This sequel proved to be a box office success after earning a whopping $161 million in US and Canada alone (more than $300 million total worldwide) on its first weekend.

the hunger games: catching fire

The story goes like this: Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour" of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is of action, adventure, sci-fi, and thriller genre, which runs for approximately 146 minutes. It's rated PG-13 in most countries for intense sequences of violence and action, frightening images, thematic elements, and suggestive situation and language. I was never a fan of the original film but the sequel was just so good that I had to watch the first one again. The costumes and effects that were used are beyond compare. Jennifer Lawrence did great as well and she deserves an award for that. I guess you should see the film for yourself. I wasn't a fan of it before but now I'm a big fan of the series. The film is available in Dolby Digital, Dolby Atmos, Digital 2D, 4DX, and IMAX. The soundtrack of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has also made its way up the charts with Coldplay's Atlas and Christina Aguilera's We Remain topping the list. Listen to both soundtracks below:

I just couldn't wait for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 next year. Like the Harry Potter and Twilight series, Lionsgate announced that it will split the third installment of The Hunger Games, Mockingjay, into 2 films, releasing Part 1 on November 21, 2014 and the Part 2 on November 20, 2015.

RATING: 4.5 out of 5 STARS
