Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Made to Replace Your Laptop

Microsoft has unveiled the third iteration of the Surface Pro. It runs on full-blown Windows 8.1 desktop OS and is said to be capable of replacing your laptop. Cased in magnesium, the Surface Pro 3 is pretty solid. It weighs in at 800 grams, which is much lighter than previous generations. It is also just 9.1mm thin, which can rival many other tablets and Ultrabooks or laptops (like the MacBook Air). The Surface Pen and multi-position kickstand are still on-board.


The Microsoft Surface 3 comes with a larger 12-inch color-calibrated display with ClearType tech. The screen has an aspect ratio of 3:2 and is said to have 6% more area than that on a 13-inch Macbook Air. The resolution of the Surface Pro 3's display is 2160 x 1440 pixels, resulting in about 216 ppi. Under its hood is a 4th generation Intel Core i7 processor with HD 4400 graphics (for the high-end model). More affordable configurations will be available as well, packing an Intel Core i3 or a Core i5 processor. Up to 8GB RAM can be found inside the Surface Pro 3 and storage options range from 64GB to 512GB.


Imaging-wise, the Surface Pro 3 comes with two 5-MP cameras – one in the front and one in the back – paired with front- and back-facing microphones. Both cameras can shoot 1080p FullHD videos at 30 frames per second. Its front-facing speakers are said to be 45% louder than previous generation. It is now available in stores and comes at different price points:

- 4th gen Intel® Core™ i5, 256GB and 8GB of RAM - $1,299
