Movie Review: Taken 3 (TAK3N)

Taken 3 is a 2015 French action thriller film directed by Olivier Megaton. It is the third and final installment in the Taken trilogy, and the sequel to the 2008 film Taken and the 2012 film Taken 2. The film stars Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace, Famke Janssen, and Forest Whitaker. The movie has proved to be a box office hit despite negative reviews, grossing over $200 million, given its budget was less than $50 million.

The story goes like this: Liam Neeson returns as ex-covert operative Bryan Mills, whose long awaited reconciliation with his ex-wife is tragically cut short when she is brutally murdered. Consumed with rage, and framed for the crime, he goes on the run to evade the relentless pursuit of the CIA, FBI and the police. For one last time, Mills must use his "particular set of skills," to track down the real killers, exact his unique brand of justice, and protect the only thing that matters to him now - his daughter.

Taken 3 is of action and thriller genre, which runs for approximately 109 minutes. It's rated PG-13 in most countries for intense sequences of violence and action, and for brief strong language. First off, I have to admit that I haven't seen its first two prequels, so I'll be basing my review solely on this movie. If I were to believe the critics, then I would say that it is a bad movie with a hackneyed plot. But no, I actually enjoyed watching it. I was uncomfortable with some action scenes probably because of too much violence. And there were also a lot of predictable moments but I enjoyed it nevertheless. Liam Neeson is still doing great for his age. His portrayal as someone invincible in the movie is somewhat hard to believe. Forest Whitaker's performance is equally commendable. He really played his part well. The plot was somewhat confusing at first but in the end, everything becomes clear. While I truly enjoyed watching this movie, I guess it's really time to retire this franchise since most of the audience have grown tired of the movie's predictability. Probably, the production company behind this movie can offer something different next year.

RATING: 4 out of 5 STARS
