Garmin VIRB X & VIRB XE Action Cameras

Garmin has unveiled two new action cameras called the VIRB X and VIRB XE. Both action cameras are made of tough materials able to withstand the elements, be it water or dust. While the VIRB X and VIRB XE may look the same on the outside, the latter is the more capable of the two.

While the VIRB X and VIRB XE share the same 12.4-MP 1/2.3″ CMOS sensor with image stabilization and lens distortion correction, only the latter can shoot videos at 1080p at 60fps, 960p footage at 100fps, 720p in 120fps, and 480p content in 240fps. The former tops out at 1080p video recording at 30fps. It also lacks the Pro Mode (manual controls) of its more expensive sibling. Aside from these differences, the two are essentially the same. Both models have a built-in microphone and microSD card slot and their connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, and USB 2.0.

The VIRB X and VIRB XE also utilize Garmin's G-Metrix, which allows you to track and overlay how fast, how far, how high, and how intense the moment truly was. And finally, both action cameras are able to dive to 50 meters without a case, allowing you to capture cleaner and clearer video and audio. The Garmin VIRB X is priced at $299.99 while the Garmin VIRB XE will set you back $399.99.
