Huawei Launches the P8 Flagship Smartphone

Huawei has unveiled its flagship smartphone for 2015: the Huawei P8. Despite dropping the "Ascend" moniker, the P8 still has a lot of tricks up its sleeve. First off, it comes with a super slim 6.4 mm thin nano-coated full metal unibody with chamfered edges. It packs a 5.2-inch display of 1080p Full HD resolution and boasts an industry leading 78.3% screen-to-body ratio. Under the hood, there is a 64-bit octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 930 chipset that can be found along with 3GB RAM and 16GB or 64GB of expandable internal storage. The Huawei P8 runs Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box with Huawei's own EMUI 3.1 skin on top. A 2,680 mAh battery keeps its lights on.

Aside from its sleek body, the P8's main camera is among its key selling points. It packs a 13-MP RGBW primary camera sensor that should allow better performance in low light conditions. The camera's RGBW sensor is said to bring brightness up by 32% in high-contrast lighting scenes and reduce it by 78% in low-light environments. The main camera also features an f/2.0 lens, OIS (optical image stabilization) and dual-tone LED flash. It is also equipped with an 8-MP front-facing camera for better selfies and high quality video calls. Connectivity-wise, Huawei P8 has dual-SIM support with 4G connectivity supported on both SIM slots. It also has a wind-suppression feature for better call quality.

Expected to hit the shelves in May 2015, the Huawei P8 costs 499 euros for its 16GB base model and goes up to 599 euros for the 64GB model. These are the prices in Europe and the smartphone is expected to be much cheaper in Asian markets.
