Movie Review: Insidious: Chapter 3

Insidious: Chapter 3 is a 2015 American supernatural horror film, which serves as a prequel to the first two films and the third installment in the Insidious film series. The film stars Dermot Mulroney and Stefanie Scott, with Angus Sampson, Whannell, and Lin Shaye reprising their roles from the previous films. The film was released on June 5, 2015. It was met with mixed reviews from critics and Insidious fans.

The story goes like this: After trying to connect with her dead mother, teenager Quinn Brenner, ask physic Elise Rainier to help her, she refuses due to negotiate events in her childhood. Quinn starts noticing paranormal events happen in her house. After a vicious attack from a demon her father goes back and begs Elise Rainier to use her abilities to contact the other side in hope to stop these attacks by this furious demon content for a body.

Insidious: Chapter 3 is of horror genre, which runs for approximately 97 minutes. It's rated PG-13 for violence, frightening images, some language and thematic elements. I actually didn't have high hopes for this film but I still hoped to be frightened and entertained. Sure, it has some scary and heart-stomping scenes, along with frightening music and sound effects, but as as whole, it was the weakest among the three films. Lin Shaye was great as always but the same could not be said for the rest of the cast. The weird thing is that the movie had a lot of funny and drama scenes, which could have been helpful to the plot if used sparingly. In general, the film was so-so and somehow hard to recommend to Insidious and horror movie fans. If you haven't seen it yet, you can just wait for it to be shown on TV within a year.
