The Caterpillar S40 is probably one of the most rugged smartphones ever manufactured. It comes not only with an IP68 certification, making it dust and water resistant but also with a MIL-STD 810G certification, which means it can withstand accidental drops, extreme temperatures, and other harsh conditions.

It may be one of the most rugged smartphones ever invented but the Caterpillar S40 lacks so much in terms of hardware specs. It packs a 4.7-inch display of a measly 540 x 960 qHD pixel resolution. It is however protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass 4 and is operable with gloves and wet fingers. Ticking inside it is an entry-level 1.1GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 chipset with just 1GB RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage. In the camera department, there is an 8-MP primary unit and a 2-MP front-facing shooter. A 3,000 mAh battery will keep its lights on.

The Caterpillar S40 runs Android 5.1 Lollipop and will be launched on August 1 in at least 60 countries. If its internals didn't quite catch your attention, then its price probably will - it will cost $439 unlocked.
