The Moto X Style, Moto X Play & New Moto G

Motorola took the wraps off three new smartphones: the Moto X Style, the Moto X Play, and the 2015 Moto G. All three smartphones run almost stock Android 5.1 Lollipop, have Gorilla Glass 3 screen protection, and are LTE-capable but sold at different price points. The most high-end of the three is the Moto X Style, which utilizes the Moto Maker service, allowing users to choose the smartphone's back plates, materials, and accent colors. These materials include wood, genuine leather, silicon rubber, and many more. It is also IP52-certified, making the device splash-resistant.

The Moto X Style is actually a phablet with a large 5.7-inch TFT LCD of Quad HD resolution. Ticking inside it is a 64-bit hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset with 3GB RAM and 32GB/64GB of expandable internal storage. In the camera department, there is a 21-MP primary shooter with an f/2.0 aperture, phase-detection auto-focus and dual-tone dual-LED flash. It is also capable of shooting 4K videos in standard and HDR modes. In front is a wide-angle 5-MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture, 1.4-micron pixels, and an LED flash, making the device a perfect companion for nighttime selfies.

The Moto X Style is equipped with a relatively modest 3,000 mAh battery. which supports Motorola's Turbo Charging technology. As mentioned above, it runs near-stock Android 5.1 Lollipop with Motorola goodies such as Moto Voice, Moto Assist, Moto Display, and Moto Actions. It will be launched some time in September 2015 (along with its Pure Edition) and is expected to cost just $399 unlocked.

But there wasn't only one Moto X that was presented on stage, the Moto X Style has a smaller (yet still big) and more affordable version - meet the Moto X Play. It borrows the design language of the more expensive Moto X Style but its lines are much more straight. Like the Moto X Style, its design is also customizable via Moto Maker and Motorola offers Moto Shells and Moto Flip Shells as cases for it

The Moto X Play packs a 5.5-inch display of 1080p Full HD resolution. It is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset with 2GB RAM and 16GB/32GB of expandable internal storage. Being smaller than the Moto X Style, the Moto X Play surprisingly comes with a much larger battery - a 3,630 mAh cell and also supports Turbo Charging. It will have most of the camera features of the Moto X Style including the 21-MP rear camera with dual-tone, dual-LED flash and the 5-MP front-facing snapper although without the front-facing LED flash. It is expected to retail for $300 but it will not be officially sold in the United States.

The last of the three new Motorola smartphones is the 2015 Moto G, which packs a lot of bang for the buck. It may have received some face lift from Motorola but has retained its distinct look. Moreover, the smartphone is now water-resistant. It also sports a 5-inch touchscreen of 720p HD resolution. It is powered by an 64-bit quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset with 2GB RAM and 8GB/16GB of expandable internal storage. It still rocks a 13-MP rear camera but with a dual-tone, dual-LED flash and a 5-MP front-facing snapper. A 2,470 mAh battery will keep its lights on. Like the Moto X Style and Moto X Play, the new Moto G will also be fully customizable through Moto Maker. It will go on sale July 28 starting at $180.
