Movie Review: Terminator Genisys

Terminator Genisys is a 2015 American science fiction action film and the fifth installment in the Terminator series. Arnold Schwarzenegger reprises his role as the eponymous character, along with newcomers Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, J. K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi, Matt Smith, Courtney B. Vance, and Lee Byung-hun. Though the film was heavily panned by critics, two sequels of the movie are on their way. Terminator Genisys is also available in 3D, Real 3D, and IMAX 3D.

The story goes like this: When John Connor (Jason Clarke), leader of the human resistance, sends Sgt. Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and safeguard the future, an unexpected turn of events creates a fractured timeline. Now, Sgt. Reese finds himself in a new and unfamiliar version of the past, where he is faced with unlikely allies, including the Guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger), dangerous new enemies, and an unexpected new mission: To reset the future...

Terminator Genisys is of action, adventure, sci-fi and thriller genre, which runs for approximately 126 minutes. It's rated PG-13 in most countries for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and gunplay throughout, partial nudity and brief strong language. Well, the film is action packed and loaded with lots of visual effects. The storyline is very much similar to Terminator films in the past. The actors were okay with a few parts of the film being dragging. Basically, the heavy use of CGI is the film's saving grace. The Terminator series has been shown in cinemas for decades and not much has changed. The concept is really tired and it's about time to retire the franchise. The film would probably be only enjoyed by diehard fans of the franchise and first-time Terminator viewers.

RATING: 3.5 out of 5 STARS
