Sony Xperia Z5 & Xperia Z5 Compact Now Official
It's been in the rumor mill for quite some time. Finally, Sony has officially unveiled the Xperia Z5 along with the Xperia Z5 Compact at IFA 2015. Let's start with the Xperia Z5, which is successor to the Xperia Z3 and the recently released Z3+. The Xperia Z5 sports the signature OmniBalance design of high-end Sony devices. It comes with a metal frame and frosted glass finish. A fingerprint sensor is now embedded inside its power/lock button. And like previous Sony flagships, the Xperia Z5 is water and dust resistant (IP65/68).
It may not have the 4K Ultra HD display of the Xperia Z5 Premium but the Xperia Z5 comes with a decent 5.2-inch Triluminos display of 1080p Full HD resolution. Under the hood is a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset with 3GB RAM and 32GB of expandable internal storage. Imaging-wise, it sports the new 23-MP Exmor RS sensor from Sony with phase detection auto-focus and LED flash. Its front camera is a 5-MP Exmor R sensor with wide-angle 25 mm lens. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, and LTE support.
As with any Sony flagship device launch, a smaller, more compact version of it is in tow. Meet the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact. It is successor to the Xperia Z3 Compact and essentially has most of the features of its bigger sibling - the Xperia Z5 - but there are some differences. The Xperia Z5 Compact comes with a smaller 4.6-inch Triluminos display of 720p HD resolution. Its memory has also been downgraded to just 2GB RAM. Its battery is also smaller, just 2,700 mAh but is considered more than adequate for the phone's size. On the bright side, it will have the same 64-bit, octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 32GB of expandable internal storage, side fingerprint scanner, water and dust resistance, LTE connectivity, and the new 23-MP Sony Exmor RS camera sensor with phase detection auto-focus of the Xperia Z5.
