OnePlus 5T: Dual Camera & 18:9 Screen Aspect Ratio

The OnePlus 5T goes official and now sports the trendy 18:9 screen aspect ratio. Physically, the OnePlus 5T looks very much like the OnePlus 5 - made of glass and aluminum with almost the same dimensions. This time around, it packs a 6-inch Optic AMOLED display of 1080p Full HD resolution with the new 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, one can find the flagship octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset with 6GB/8GB RAM and 64GB/128GB of non-expandable storage. Like the OnePlus 5, this too runs OxygenOS based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

The original OnePlus 5 came with dual rear cameras, and it's the same case with the OnePlus 5T. However, instead of two 16-MP lens, the latter packs one 20-MP lens and another 16-MP lens. They have an f/1.7 aperture with EIS (electronic image stabilization), phase detection auto-focus, and dual-LED flash. The OnePlus 5T has also ditched the telephoto lens for better low-light photography. It also features Portrait Mode using software algorithms. A 16-MP front camera with EIS is also on board. Similar to the iPhone X, the OnePlus 5T supports Face Unlock through its front camera though nowhere as secure as the Face ID of the former. However, the OnePlus 5 supplements it with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

A non-removable 3,300 mAh battery will power the new OnePlus smartphone and it supports fast charging. Only available in a single color variant - Midnight Black, the OnePlus 5T also costs a bit higher than its predecessor at $500 in the United States. The device will also be available in Canada, Europe, China, Hong Kong, India and more.

HTC U11+ & U11 Life: Edge Sense Buddies

As 2017 ends, HTC is not done yet churning quality smartphones. And with the arrival of the U11+, HTC may have launched its best smartphone to date. Almost the same size as its predecessor the HTC U11+ came with all the bells and whistles that the U11 arrived with - squeezable sides (Edge Sense) and sleek body. But this time around, the U11+ comes with a larger battery, a unique translucent design, a higher ingress protection rating (IP68 dust and water resistance), and a larger screen sporting the increasingly popular 18:9 screen aspect ratio.

The HTC U11+ packs a 6-inch Super LCD6 screen with DCI-P3 and HDR10 support, protected by Gorilla Glass 5. Ticking inside is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC with 4GB/6GB RAM and 64GB/128GB of expandable storage. Its battery capacity does not disappoint either at 3,930 mAh, which supports Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0. It runs Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with HTC Sense on top. Other features include BoomSound speakers that are 30% louder. Unfortunately, there is still no 3.5 mm headphone jack here. Good thing is that HTC bundled it with active noise-cancelling earphones. The HTC U11+ also has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Imaging-wise, the U11+ sports a single 12-MP primary camera with an f/1.7 aperture, optical image stabilization (OIS), 1.4 micron pixels, phase detection auto-focus, and dual-tone dual-LED flash. There's also an 8-MP front-facing camera with HDR tricks on board. The U11+ will come in three colors: Ceramic Black, Amazing Silver, and Translucent Black. It will retail for £699 in the UK and 799 Euros across Europe. Sadly, it won't officially reach the US shores.

Then we have the HTC U11 Life, which looks more similar to the original U11. It has a 5.2-inch Super LCD screen of 1080p Full HD resolution. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset with 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB of expandable storage. It will run Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box with the latest HTC Sense on top in the US (with a promised Android 8.0 Oreo update within 30 days). On the other hand, the U11 Life will ship with Android 8.0 Oreo (Android One) in Europe. When it comes to shooting lenses, the U11 Life sports a 16-MP primary camera with an f/2.0 aperture, phase detection auto-focus, and an LED flash. Another 16-MP shooter can be found in front on the device. Its other features include Edge Sense, IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, and a front-mounted fingerprint scanner. HTC has also bundled USonic headphones with the U11 Life, which sadly lacks a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Retailing for $349, the U11 Life will come in Brilliant Black, Sapphire Blue, and Ice White color variants.

Razer Phone w/ Ultramotion Display & 8GB RAM

Gaming tech company Razer has forayed into the smartphone market with the Razer Phone. At first glance, it looks like your ordinary brick-shaped smartphone like the Sony Xperia with sizable bezels at the top and at the bottom. With a metal body and matte black finish, the Razer Phone packs a massive 5.7-inch display of Quad HD resolution. It sports a more conventional 16:9 screen aspect ratio and has a wide color gamut. Best of all, it is the first smartphone to come with a 120 Hz refresh rate, which the company calls Ultramotion Display. This will give the smartphone smooth animation and zero input lag.

Under the hood, we find Qualcomm's topshelf octa-core Snapdragon 835 chipset with a record-breaking 8GB RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. Powering all these is a gigantic 4,000 mAh battery with Qualcomm QuickCharge 4.0+ technology. What about its other features? It come with stereo speakers, which somehow justify the large bezels. It has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. The Razer Phone is already available for pre-order and will cost $699 in the US and £699 in the UK. There is no information yet if it will reach mainland Asia.

Water Resistant BlackBerry Motion w/ 4,000 mAh Battery

In Dubai, BlackBerry showed us what a full-touchscreen version of the KEYone would look like through the BlackBerry Motion. Made with an aluminum frame and soft touch materials on the back, you'd be forgiven should you mistake it for a KEYone. Manufactured by TCL, the Motion carries the largest battery ever used in a BlackBerry handset - 4,000 mAh to be exact. Not only that, the Motion is also the first BlackBerry handset to feature water and dust resistance (IP67 certified). That means it can be submerged in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. So what else does it offer?

The BlackBerry Motion packs a 5.5-inch anti-scratch IPS LCD of 1080p Full HD resolution. Under the hood, we find a very efficient octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset with 4GB RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. It runs Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box but will get Android 8.0 Oreo in 2018. Thanks to Quick Charge 3.0, its humongous 4,000 mAh battery will charge to 50% in just 40 minutes. The Motion also has a fingerprint scanner embedded in the home button. Being a Blackberry, the Motion is also big when it comes to security. It has a Locker Mode that will enable users to set their files and photos in private using a PIN or a fingerprint. Moreover, the BlackBerry Convenience Key on the side can now be customized with four profiles: Home, Car, Office, and Hub.

When it comes to photography, the Motion sports a 12-MP primary camera with an f/2.0 aperture, phase detection auto-focus, and dual-tone, dual-LED flash. However, video capture maxes out at 1080p Full HD. There's also an 8-MP selfie camera on board. The BlackBerry Motion will become available in the UAE and Saudi Arabia soon and will roll out to select global markets later this month. It is expected to cost around $499.
