iPod touch: The Most Improved iPod Ever

So, the fifth iteration of the iPod touch has already been launched by Apple, together with the iPhone 5. Do you think that it still is the "funnest iPod ever," as claimed by the Cupertino-based company? Well, if you are to believe Apple, the fifth generation iPod touch has been "engineered for maximum funness." Let's see!

Like the previous generations of the iPod touch, it also builds on the design of its smartphone cousin, the classic and iconic iPhone. So if you're not too keen on buying the iPhone 5 because of its sky-high price tag, then you'll be better off with this baby! You get most of the iPhone's features (minus the telephony features, of course) for a fraction of the cost.

So what's new with the latest version of the iPod touch? Like the iPhone 5, it is made of anodized aluminum (minus the glass parts) and has an awkwardly long body. It has a 4-inch Retina display with a 326-dot-per-inch pixel density and a sweet 16:9 aspect ratio capable of playing 1080p Full HD videos. Like the iPhone 5, it will run on iOS 6 with over 200 new features, such as the new and improved Maps, the Passbook app, Twitter integration (in addition to Facebook), and Siri (finally!), among others. The fifth generation of the iPod touch will also come in 5 vibrant colors (save for the Red product, which can only be bought from the Apple Online Store).

Hardware-wise, the new iPod touch now sports a 5MP iSight camera and is capable of shooting 1080p Full HD videos. It has the same advanced optics used in the camera of the iPhone 4S and is able to shoot in Panorama mode like the iPhone 5. Did I mention that it has an LED flash at the back as well? Its front-facing camera has now been upgraded to capture 720p HD videos and can be also used for FaceTime calls (which only works with a Wi-Fi network). For the processor, the iPod touch is powered by a dual-core A5 chip, which powers the iPhone 4S. This means that we can expect a smoother and more fluid performance of applications installed on your iPod touch.

As for its accessories, the iPod touch will come with Apple's all-new EarPods, which is said to improve bass and overall audio output. Mind you, the EarPods has a really cool, futuristic design (aside from its very comfortable fit). The iPod touch will also come with the new Lightning to USB cord for charging and wired syncing. And it will also ship with the "loop", which is just a glorified hand strap so that you won't lose your precious iDevice. The color of the loop will depend on the color of the iPod touch you will buy. By the way, the loop also comes in handy when taking pictures to make sure you don't drop your iPod. Well, that's it! That's the all-new iPod touch. Should you buy it? It depends. If you don't have an iPhone, or an iPad, or an iPod touch, then you should! You will surely enjoy using it! It gives you a taste of iOS minus the hefty price tag of the iPhone and the iPad. If you own a fourth-generation iPod touch, then there would be no rationale for you to upgrade since most of the improvements are incremental. With all these said, I believe that the iPod touch (fifth-generation) is the most improved iPod ever. I'll even go on to say that it is one of the best dedicated music players in the entire galaxy (no pun intended).

Check out my review on the iPhone 5, the new iPod nano, the iPad mini, the new iPod shuffle, and iOS 6.

Til then...
