Movie Review: World War Z

World War Z is arguably one of the most anticipated films of the year. Starring Hollywood heartthrob Brad Pitt, who is also one of the film's producers, World War Z is the end-of-the-world movie you couldn't afford to miss. And if you are a big fan of zombie movies, then you are in for a treat. Loosely based on the 2006 novel of the same name by American author Max Brooks, rumors have it that the film will have a sequel or even a third installment if it becomes a worldwide hit, making it a trilogy. World War Z lets you enter the world of zombies like never before. Did I say zombies? Or maybe infected humans? Well, see it for yourself. I, myself, had to see it twice just to be sure.


The story goes like this: United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments, and threatening to destroy humanity itself.

World War Z is of sci-fi/action/thriller/horror/drama genre. The visual effects used were stunning. The shooting locations, especially in Jerusalem and the United Kingdom, were majestic and breath-taking. But more than the actors, the effects, and the shooting locations, it's the story itself that got me hooked. Using strains of meningitis to hide yourself from the undead is ingenious. I wonder if such thing can really happen (where to get the undead first?). The film lasted for almost 2 hours but the ending scene seemed lacking. Perhaps the sequel rumor is true. I can't wait! It's rated PG-13 in most countries, so children below 13 years old can still watch if accompanied by adults. The film is available in IMAX 3D, Digital 3D, and 2D. Can I just say that Israeli actress Daniella Kertesz, who played Segen, Pitt's Israeli bodyguard, was actually a revelation? She actually brought something to the table, which really excelled Pitt’s performance. I highly encourage everyone to go see this film!
