Restaurant Review: Project Pie

Project Pie is a custom built artisanal pizza concept from the United States that opened its doors in the Philippines mid this year. Located at 515 Shaw along Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City, you'll never get lost going there. It's right beside Starbucks Coffee. Project Pie takes pride in selling pizzas made according to your specifications.


The diner is spacious enough to accommodate more than 50 people. The interiors remind me of Yellow Cab - bare ceiling painted in black. There are graffiti on the wall - famous quotes to be exact. Because of the interiors and the overall feel of the place, I thought that Yellow Cab really owns the franchise of Project Pie but I was wrong. One of the attendants said that it is owned by the Shakey's Pizza Group.

When it comes to food, you basically have to choose among pizzas, salads, and desserts. For the pizza, a whole one costs PhP285, which is already good for sharing. You can order some of their specialty pizzas or you can create your own. It's prepared and baked in front of you so you are assured of its freshness. Their pizzas are good. I've tried three flavora and all are surprisingly and equally yummy. Now comes the downside, you'll have to wait for your pizza to be ready. It takes about 10-15 minutes. To make matters worse, fall in line during lunch time or supper, and you'll have to wait for 30-45 minutes more. Beverages are refillable and cost only PhP65. You can choose among Coke products and some of their home-brewed teas. The staff are very accommodating and friendly. The restroom is clean, with tissue paper and hand soap.

 
Project Pie is perfect for college students, young professionals, and barkadas. Budget needed is about PhP250-400 per meal but this is already good for sharing. It is open daily from 10 AM until 10 PM. They accept walk-in guests and take-outs as well. You may also opt to be seated outside if you need to smoke.
