Corning Introduces the Antimicrobial Gorilla Glass

Corning has released a variant of its famous Gorilla Glass to combat germs that accumulate on our phones and other gadgets by spraying it with an antimicrobial coating. The Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass contains ionic silver, which is a well-known anti-bacterial agent and has been incorporated into the glass surface without compromise to the glass’s structure and other properties.

According to Corning’s general manager and senior vice president, James R. Steiner:

Corning’s Antimicrobial Gorilla Glass inhibits the growth of algae, mold, mildew, fungi, and bacteria because of its built-in antimicrobial property, which is intrinsic to the glass and effective for the lifetime of a device.
The Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass can be installed in computers, mobile phones, calculators, telephones, and on various other electronic displays. We can expect to see devices sporting it as early as this year.
