Galaxy S5 LTE-A w/ QHD Screen & Snapdragon 805

It's been only four months since the launch of the original Samsung Galaxy S5 and a successor has already been announced. Well, it's not exactly its successor but more like a more powerful version. Plus, Samsung is probably feeling the heat from the LG G3, which is selling like hotcakes. Meet the Galaxy S5 LTE-A, which is basically the same as Galaxy S5 but with QHD display, Snapdragon 805 chipset, 3GB RAM, and LTE Advanced connectivity.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A is the first smartphone to feature a Super AMOLED display of Quad HD resolution (the LG G3 uses IPS LCD). With a display resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, the Galaxy S5 LTE-A has a record-breaking pixel density of 576 ppi. Samsung claims that the display covers 90% of the color gamut, has a 0.01ms response time, and 100,000:1 contrast ratio.

The Galaxy S5 LTE-A is also one of the first smartphones to use the Snapdragon 805 chipset. It features four Krait 450 CPU cores clocked at 2.5GHz along with the Adreno 420 GPU. It now has 3GB RAM as well. As its name implies, this version of the Galaxy S5 supports LTE Advanced or LTE-A connectivity, which at 255Mbps is nearly three times faster than standard LTE. Unfortunately, LTE-A is currently available only in a few countries. It's no surprise that the launch is limited to South Korea, at least for the mean time.

Other than these new features mentioned above, the Galaxy S5 LTE-A is mostly similar to the original Galaxy S5. It still has a 16-MP rear camera, 2-MP front camera, heart rate monitor, fingerprint sensor, dust and water resistant body, 2,800mAh battery, and Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box. It will be available in Charcoal Black, Shimmering White, Electric Blue, Copper Gold, Sweet Pink, and Glam Red.

The main concern now is the 2,800 mAh battery capacity of this new Galaxy S5 since it now has to push more pixels because of the QHD screen and LTE-A for sure is power-hungry. Since Snapdragon 805 is more efficient than the Snapdragon 801, probably the battery life of the Galaxy S5 LTE-A would not be as bad as we think it could be.
