Galaxy A8: Thinnest Samsung Smartphone Ever

In China, Samsung has finally unveiled its thinnest Galaxy device ever - the Galaxy A8. It is the largest member of the Galaxy A family and also made of a premium metallic chassis. Undeniably a phablet, the Galaxy A8 measures 158 mm x 76.8 mm x 5.9 mm and weighs just 151 grams. It's almost as big as the iPhone 6 Plus, but thinner and way lighter.

The Samsung Galaxy A8 packs a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display of 1080p Full HD resolution. It runs on a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC with 2GB RAM and 16GB/32GB of expandable internal storage. Imaging-wise, the phablet packs a 16-MP ISOCELL rear camera with a bright f/1.9 aperture and OIS (optical image stabilization). Meanwhile, a 5-MP front-facing camera with a wide f/1.9 aperture takes care of selfies and video calls.

In terms of connectivity, the Galaxy A8 has 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS with GLONASS and Beidou support, NFC, and dual-SIM capabilities (although the second SIM takes the place of the microSD card). It also has fingerprint scanner for added security. The phablet runs Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box with the latest Samsung TouchWiz on top. All of this will be powered by a 3,050 mAh non-removable battery. Samsung said that it should give users 304 hours of standby time. The Samsung Galaxy A8 will come in at least three color variants: black, white and gold.
