Movie Review: The Divergent Series: Allegiant

The Divergent Series: Allegiant is an American science fiction, action, adventure film directed by Robert Schwentke. It is the first of two cinematic parts based on the novel Allegiant, the final book in the Divergent trilogy by Veronica Roth, and the third installment in The Divergent Series. The film stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Jeff Daniels, Octavia Spencer, Ray Stevenson, Zoë Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Bill Skarsgård, and Naomi Watts. It is the sequel to The Divergent Series: Insurgent and will be followed by the concluding entry, The Divergent Series: Ascendant. Also released in IMAX format, Allegiant has received generally unfavorable reviews and has been panned by critics.

The story goes like this: After the earth-shattering revelations of Insurgent, Tris must escape with Four and go beyond the wall enclosing Chicago. For the first time ever, they will leave the only city and family they have ever known. Once outside, old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless with the revelation of shocking new truths. Tris and Four must quickly decide who they can trust as a ruthless battle ignites beyond the walls of Chicago which threatens all of humanity. In order to survive, Tris will be forced to make impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice and love.

The Divergent Series: Allegiant is of action, adventure, and sci-fi genre, which runs for approximately 121 minutes. It's Rated PG-13 in most countries for intense violence and action, thematic elements, and some partial nudity. Allegiant may not be as exciting as the first two Divergent films but through it, one will get an idea on what the entire series is really about. However, many of the scenes were very predictable. Some were also dragging. I must commend though the chemistry between the two lead actors and the rest of the cast. Allegiant invested heavily in CGI and it paid off. Overall, it was an okay film. Not bad but not great either.

RATING: 3.5 out of 5 STARS
