Lenovo Announces Phab2, Phab2 Plus & Phab2 Pro

Along with the new Moto Z series, Lenovo has unveiled three new smartphones: the Phab2, Phab2 Plus, and Phab2 Pro. The first two are affordable Android 6.0 Marshmallow-running phablets. The Lenovo Phab2 has a 6.4-inch display with a paltry 720p HD resolution and a quad-core MediaTek 8735 chipset with 3GB RAM and 32GB of expandable internal storage. The plastic-made Phab2 also packs a 13-MP rear camera with LED flash and an 8-MP front-facing shooter. A large 4,050 mAh battery will keep its lights on. The Lenovo Phab2 will sell for just $199 starting July 2016 worldwide.

Meanwhile, the Lenovo Phab2 Plus builds on the specs of the Phab2. With the same 6.4-inch display, its resolution was bumped to 1080p Full HD and its processor is now a quad-core MediaTek 8783 with the same 3GB RAM and 32GB of expandable internal storage. The Phab2 Plus has the same battery capacity as the regular Phab2. A fingerprint scanner can also be found at the back. The main difference between the two phablets is the main camera. Where the Phab2 only has a one rear camera, the Phab2 Plus has 2 13-MP main cameras (for refocusing and changing backgrounds) with an f/2.0 aperture, a Fujitsi Milbeaut image processor, phase detection auto-focus, and dual-tone, dual-LED flash. An 8-MP camera can also be found in front. The Lenovo Phab2 Plus will retail for $299 starting July 2016 worldwide.

Lastly, we have the Lenovo Phab2 Pro, which is touted as the world's first commercial smartphone that supports Google's Project Tango. Project Tango was launched as a platform that allowed the phone to get an understanding of its location by building a three-dimensional map of indoor spaces. With Project Tango, the Lenovo Phab2 Pro will be able to measure your room and know those dimensions as well as its own position to bring hugely improved augmented reality and virtual reality applications.

The Phab2 Pro comes with the same 6.4-inch IPS display but of Quad HD resolution. Ticking inside it is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 chipset with 4GB RAM and 64GB of expandable internal storage. It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box and has a beefy 4,050 mAh battery. It also has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and Dolby Atmos surround sound technology. What sets it apart from the series is its 4-camera setup. It has a 16-MP RGB main camera, a depth camera, and a motion tracking camera with infra-red beamer and fish-eye lens for all the special features of Project Tango. There's also an 8-MP camera in front. The metal-clad Lenovo Phab2 Pro will come in two colors: champagne gold and gunmetal gray, and will retail worldwide for $500 this September 2016.
