Movie Review: Suicide Squad
Suicide Squad is a 2016 American superhero film based on the DC Comics anti-hero team of the same name. The film stars Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood, and Cara Delevingne. In Suicide Squad, a secret government agency led by Amanda Waller recruits imprisoned super villains to execute dangerous black ops missions and save the world from a powerful threat, in exchange for leaner sentences. Released in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D, the film broke many box office records, including the biggest August openings in North America ($133.7 million), international ($133.3 million) and worldwide ($267 million), among others and has amassed $465 million in global ticket sales. It was, however, generally panned by critics.Suicide Squad is of action, adventure, comedy, sci-fi genre, which runs for approximately 123 minutes. It's Rated PG-13 in most countries for sequences of violence and action throughout, disturbing behavior, suggestive content and language. Well, it's a different kind of action movie - a super villain movie to be exact - but I liked it. It's not everyday that you see villains save the world from annihilation. While the movie was quite long, there wasn't any moment I got bored. It was very entertaining and really kept me on the edge of my seat. Props to Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jared Leto, Jay Hernandez and Cara Delevigne for some great acting chops. I am particularly in awe of the Enchantress. She's such a memorable character in the film. The visual effects, scoring and the use of CGI were amazing as well. And the soundtrack, yes, just perfect for the scenes. I don't know why it got bad reviews from critics but if you ask me (and the millions of other moviegoers who had seen it), it's perhaps one of the best superhero/super villain movies this year.
RATING: 4 out of 5 STARS
