LG G6 Packs a 5.7-Inch FullVision Display

The LG G6 has arrived and is looking quite different from any of its predecessors. No more modular designs, leather backs, back mounted buttons -- basically everything LG has experimented with in the past. The G6 looks all grown up with its shiny glass back and an aluminum metal frame. Its display has also grown bigger, now a 5.7-inch chamfered IPS LCD of Quad HD+ resolution with a 2:1 (18:9) aspect ratio. LG calls it FullVision display as it takes up almost 80% of the smartphone's front surface with very thin front bezels. The front is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 while the back is covered with Gorilla Glass 5. The G6's display also supports two color standards: Dolby Vision and HDR 10. And like the LG G5, it also features Always-On Display. The LG G6 doesn't only look stylish but is also made to withstand the elements. It is IP68 certified, making it water and dust resistant.

If there is one contentious concern with the G6, it would be the processor. The G6 is powered by last year's quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset instead of the latest Snapdragon 835. The G6 comes with Adreno 530 GPU, 4GB RAM and 32GB or 64GB of expandable storage. In some regions, the microSD card slot doubles as a secondary SIM slot. The flagship LG smartphone runs Android 7.0 Nougat with the latest LG UX on top. It is also the second smartphone, after the Google Pixel, to feature Google Assistant. Connectivity-wise, the G6 comes with everything expected in a modern day flagship smartphone like LTE-A, GPS, NFC, Wi-Fi, USB OTG, and Bluetooth 4.2. It also happens to still have an FM Radio receiver, which is rare nowadays, a 3.5 mm jack, a USB Type-C port, and Hi-Fi Quad-DAC (exclusive to the Korean market). A fingerprint scanner can also be found at the back of the smartphone. All these features will be powered by a 3,300 mAh battery with wireless charging capability and support for Quick Charge 3.0.

Let's talk about photography. The LG G6 retained the dual main camera setup of its predecessor. It has two 13-MP cameras, one wide-angle with an f/2.4 aperture and one regular with an f/1.8 aperture, which features OIS (optical image stabilization), laser auto-focus, and dual-tone, dual-LED flash. There's also a 5-MP wide-angle selfie camera, capable of recording 1080p Full HD videos. The LG G6 measures 148.9 mm x 71.9 mm x 7.9 mm. It will come in three color variants: Astro Black, Mystic White, and Ice Platinum. It will go on sale March 2017 for $800.
