Samsung Z is Samsung's First Tizen Phone

Samsung finally launches its first Tizen OS-powered smartphone: the Samsung Z. Its specs are not necessarily flagship grade but is actually much better than many Android smartphones out there. To start, it comes with 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 720, which is similar to that of the Galaxy S III. It is powered by a quad-core 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor (similar to the Galaxy S5) and runs on version 2.2.1 of the Tizen OS. It also sports the faux leather back stitching which debuted on the Galaxy Note 3.

The similarities with the Galaxy S5 does not stop there. The Samsung Z also comes with a fingerprint sensor and a heart rate monitor. It is also equipped with features such as Download Booster and Ultra Power Saving Mode, which both debuted on the Galaxy S5. It has 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card slot), an 8-MP rear camera, a 2-MP front-facing camera, and a slew of connectivity features, such as LTE-A, NFC, and an IR blaster. It also comes with a 2,600 mAh battery (similar to the Galaxy S4).

The Samsung Z does not really offer anything new when it comes to specs but Samsung said that the Tizen OS that powers it is fast, offers optimal performance with improved memory management, a quality web browsing experience, a distinctive home and application layout, and it has the ability to customize how the interface looks using built-in themes. The Samsung Z will launch first in Russia in Q3 of 2014. Pricing has not been announced yet.
